Just when I thought it would get better from my miserable 2017 I had a lousy 2018 too. Better but lousy. A few crashes and broken bones are my story and I’m sticking to it.
On July 6th I was riding my new Santa Cruz 5010 at the (deservedly) legendary Buffalo Creek area down Mt. Baldy via Charlie’s cut-off when I had 2 bad crashes. Operator error for sure. That left hand jammed on the brakes making for a few breaks. Broken ribs… not too bad since I was able to ride out and never needed x-rays. But that was my first experience with broken bones in all of my years (65.) I recovered enough to keep riding a week or so later when I again showed how stupid I can be and I crashed on a gentle trail at Staunton State Park trying to shoot a video handheld while riding.
Oh yeah, as I took delivery of the bike from Lou at Pedal Montclair he said “Don’t do anything stupid.” Words of wisdom, he has sold a lot of bikes and seen what happens when the rider feels good about it.
Still 2018 was more riding than 2017. Just more painful.
