Have a nice day!

One thing that pisses me off is when a cyclist passes me (and lots of people do) and can’t even say “Hi”.  One morning recently I was going up the switchbacks to Eagle Rock Reservation, a local climb at around 8am, no traffic on the road and a fellow road cyclist blasted by me without even a grunt, a hello or a wave.  I hollered “Have a nice day!” as he disappeared ahead.

What is the problem with people? This is West Orange NJ, not Boulder CO or the Alpe d’Huez.  There are very few cyclists on the road, we are a small fraternity (women are members of this fraternity, too) and share a common passion and bad habit.  Just say “hi”, “good morning” or even better say “on your left.”  It won’t kill you.  What if you got a flat and needed some help? That pathetic slow-poke (like me) you just rudely passed might have the tool or part you need to get home. Do it to be nice or do it out of self interest, but please have a nice day.

And while I’m ranting – WAVE to your fellow cyclists! wave
