Trapped indoors

When the weather outside is bad I ride indoors. It isn’t the same but it is better than sitting around eating donuts. (Well maybe not.) For over 10 years I have been riding a simple trainer that hold sthe rear wheel and watching Sufferfest videos which I saved to a solid state USB hard drive that plugs into the back of my TV. Pretty simple.

Now The Sufferfest is part of Wahoo Fitness as part of their SYSTM system. Wahoo SYSTM also offers other kinds of workouts ranging from yoga to standard spin class videos from GCN, pro race videos and inspirational less intense videos. I got a Wahoo Kickr Core smart trainer and after a few days of struggling to figure out how things connect I got everything hooked up . The Kickr Core smart trainer connects to my computer via a Ant+ USB Dongle and Bluetooth (magic!) which runs the trainer. SYSTM is available as a desktop app, iOS and Android.

Some people like the Zwift app but as a long time Sufferfest user I know and understand how their workouts are written and organized. I like their attitude and how they make fun of everything and combine disparate elements into a narrative. The new SYSTM implementation of Sufferfest is an improvement if you use a smart trainer. I get a much better workout than I did with the simple (dumb) trainer.  It is a real sufferfest.

Because the SYSTM app controls the resistance of the trainer I don’t have to shift and I get a much more intense workout than I did when I shifted the gears to change the resistance.  You don’t need a Wahoo trainer to use the Wahoo SYSTM app but it is a highly rated trainer.

But I desperately want to ride outside. In the meantime – suffer suffer suffer!
