It has seemed like forever, but really the renovation has been pretty quick considering the amount of work that has been done. But finally I was able to stay in the house during my last visit. Sure, it was like camping out – indoors. I slept on a leaky inflatable bed The heat didn’t really work, I didn’t have a stove to cook on and it was really dusty despite the contractor’s diligent efforts to clean up. But it wasn’t so bad. I was indoors, which was a good thing considering that it rained a lot. It even hailed for 15 minutes. I was able to make the heat work by installing a new thermostat. I patched the bed with some duct tape. And there was a real bathroom – something that really matters to me. Every morning at 4:30 I set up the camera for a time lapse photo of the sunrise, and the clouds made it really dull (I will spare you from seeing the images.) Every morning I would get up before the sun and have my coffee and breakfast and watch the day appear in the grey cloudy view. It is still gorgeous despite the lack of sun.
So I made an indoor time-lapse video of my morning inside the almost finished cabin.
And here are some more glimpses of my week-long stay at my happy place…
and the hailstorm:
The good news was there was no damage from the hail in Conifer. The bad news is that it was one of the worst hail storms to hit Denver in memory. Cars were devastated, windows were blown out, skylights destroyed from hail as large as golf balls in parts of Denver.
