With construction pretty much complete the time had come to make the house into a home. While there is a zen beauty to an empty room, and you can almost always benefit from de-cluttering like Marie Kondo preaches, it is also nice to have a real bed to sleep on and a proper table and chairs for sitting and eating. After months of sleeping on an air bed and eating at a folding table sitting on a folding chair, I was ready for something more adult. The most comfortable chair in the place was one of those plastic outdoor chairs you get at a discount store.
We were fortunate that some close friends were downsizing at the same time we needed to furnish the cabin. After their daughters chose the items they wanted we were invited to take – not buy – just take whatever we wanted. We walked through the house they were leaving and put our tags on lots of things: beds, chairs, chests, tables, lamps, mirrors, a desk… It was pretty obscene and very wonderful how much we took and that they were giving it away. Truly generous dear friends made a challenging task quite easy. And on top of that we bought their pickup truck for an attractive price.
The next challenge was getting all that STUFF from New Jersey to Colorado. Not just their stuff, but also furniture that I had built, furniture from our NJ home that we could easily live without and lots of household items.
On the recommendation from our generous friends- who would know because they seem to move quite often – we hired General Moving – a great moving company to take the furniture. Since it wasn’t a full load for one of those giant moving vans the movers wouldn’t guarantee a delivery date – which I found quite stressful. I had to be there to receive the furniture, but I had no idea when that would be. They would only give me a 14 day window of when it might arrive. To add to the complication I was going to load up the pickup truck with household items and drive out – and that takes 3 days. And I had other obligations that I had to work around.
I waited for word from the movers – please… give me a sign! Then I will load up the truck and hit the road and hopefully get there before the furniture!

Amazing what you’ve created in that beautiful spot.
