Donner Pass

My final day of riding was up the infamous Donner Pass.  It is known for the  Donner Party which cannibalized a few members when they were trapped on the pass in a snowstorm in the winter of 1846-47.  The ride today is not as tough as the early adventurers found it.  I got an early start and it was 45 degrees at the beginning but I quickly warmed up when the road tilted up.

It was a great last ride for my trip.  I rode over the top and about 7 or 8 miles down the west side before riding back to the motel.  As I descended back to Truckee there were a lot of riders heading up.  I was going to have a nice lunch, box the bike and hang out in Truckee before driving to Sacramento the next day.

It was bittersweet to end another great trip. But it would be good to get home after 2 weeks away.
