For The Love of Books

My love of books comes naturally to me. I grew up in a home full of books. My father collected limited edition artist’s books. I love to study books for inspiration. Charles Schwartz helped me learn more about fine art books and introduced me to his world of limited edition books. It was a natural progression for me to start making books. The first was my limited edition book Oddyssey of my 1985 trip around the world without leaving Ohio. Many years later I created a limited edition hand made book of my Manual portrait project. I collaborated with Leonard Seastone to make an accordion fold mini book of the hand portrait project.

A few years later Leonard and I collaborated on Crickets – a hand made book of salted paper prints from my crickets wet-plate photograms and Leonard’s poems that Leonard bound with a unique wet-plate ambrotype in the front cover . It was a massive project that produced an edition of 10 books, each unique because of the hand made processes we used.   I have made trade edition coffee table books and love making inexpensive open edition print-on-demand books of my work.

There is a section of my website devoted to my books.

The Gutenberg series of 3D printed book shaped sculptures is about how books have changed and will continue to change.
