I found a raw loft I could afford on Spring Street in Soho but it had to be renovated to be habitable.  Also it was zoned as live-work space for artists which required that I become a certified artist. I had to apply to the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs to get my “Artist Certificate.”  I provided proof of exhibitions and a few letters of reference and was accepted. Now I was an official artist!
